3/7 update: Rejection overturned with no email response.

The pay rate for these HITs is better than the average transcription HIT, as it is one cent per audio second. That still isn't saying much though.

Cons

Company name: VoxPopMe

Vague rejection reason that doesn't give any proof as to why my transcription was rejected

Email is responded to with an automated message through Zendesk that goes through the same list of instructions given through the HIT, so it is basically pointless.

Avoid this requester if you value your approval rate, there are better and friendlier transcription HITs out there.

Pros

Good paying transcription HIT if you can actually find one with decent audio quality
1 cent/audio second pay rate

Cons

Crappy audio quality for most HITs, which forces you to return as you risk going below their accepted transcription percentage

Lots of horror stories about this requester rejecting submitted HITs

Hourly sucks if you don't type fast

Lots of different dialects of English that this requester wants you to conform to, which adds to the risk of rejection

HITs that last more than 3-4 hours are basically all broken

Pros

If you can type relatively fast this is great pay per hour. Probably the best transcription hits I've done on mTurk. For reference the last time I checked my typing speed it was around 100 WPM on average.

Cons

- Pay mostly depends on your typing speed.
- If you're American and aren't use to hearing British Accents (which come in many varieties) some of the British English speakers can be hard to transcribe.
