A) The idea of "unwanted gifts" being enough trash to make an environmental difference is every bit as insane as that whole "straws" thing.B) "My own values/principles encourage me to socially recycle the unused gift items by regifting it to someone who shall value it" - quite the opposite. The majority of people finding regifting unacceptable to the point of approaching taboo, or at least being something to make shameful jokes about.
