Scenario did not specify whether an "interest charge will be owed", but there is no logical situation in which a credit card bill could be overdue and interest not also be due. Also, there is no logical situation in which I could let a $500-odd balance get overdue without being able to make minimum payment to avoid that unless I had completely ceased being paid (which is not an applicable possibility for me barring governmental and systemic collapse).

Forced-choice is false choice. I would not buy any of those books at any price. I would not, in fact, accept any of those books for free. I regard appearance on the NYT list as a mark AGAINST any book. It is ENTIRELY MEANINGLESS to ask me "how much I would pay" to get a book I WOULD NEVER BUY OR READ faster. It is nonsense. It can only be nonsense. It is EXTRA meaningless to require an answer. I generally will not pay any extra for any book to come faster, I have hundreds of other books to read.
