1-2 sentence writing task (comprehension check).A lot of researcher commentary: reassurances about the pay rate, looooongwinded debriefing, apologies for the written task, explanations that the MC questions were bring broken up onto multiple pages so as not to be an overwhelming wall of text, etc.
Advice to Requester
What I listed in the cons section actually makes the HIT go by slower because it's extra fluff text that needs to be skimmed in case it contains an attention check. Furthermore, it's fine to put the MC questions on the same page, especially since each section was only 10 or so. By splitting up the questions into chunks of two or three per page, you actually created more work for turkers because now we have to load multiple pages, scroll more, read more, etc.Turkers are well-versed in these kinds of scenario assessment studies, in likert scales, etc. Although it's kind of you to provide so many reassurances, it's really not necessary and we don't need out hands held in order to provide you with quality data. "Pilot tests" also tend not to be an accurate measure of how long it takes seasoned turkers to complete HITs, since average survey takers don't tend to do hundreds of these a week like we do--the resulting extra pay is much appreciated, though.

- last page of the survey has a message regarding the difficulty of covid that seems heartfelt rather than the "here's a crisis help line phone number" bs
