This survey is the survey every researcher who wants to understand why they get crap answers in writing prompts should study. It throws you into a 2 minute scenario video and then asks a battery of needlessly repetitive memory checks on the video. Root of the writing problem here: researcher seems pedantic as my hourly ticks lower and my faith in their respect for my time/attention is halfway gone.
Then you're hit with a slew of "this or that" questions where you need to pick the best route for solving various brain puzzle type logic questions. Not bad by itself but there are quite a few and there is no progress bar. If the study stops here, it's paid at an okayish (not great) rate and we're all good.
But it doesn't. Instead it gives you a very long, VERY detailed multiple part question to respond to with writing. You have to explain, in depth, your reasoning in how you approached the previous pages of questions. Your reasoning tree leads to subquestions that require more writing/thinking and they're all jumbled together into the same prompt.
There is also no indication if this is the only such writing prompt you're about to get hit with so the researcher, who has already set it up to be a repetitive slog fest, has just aimed a nuclear warhead at your hourly and gave you the trigger.
I ran away with the button and bailed after writing 1 sentence when they could have gotten a much more thorough & helpful response if they weren't being stingy with both their payment and task design. Because the prompt is at the very end of the survey it can't just be dumped off as I'd receive no compensation for the majority of my invested time completing the study. Play stupid games, get stupid writing prompts.
Researcher's time estimate would have been pretty close if I had sat there really delving into the writing response which is what I'm judging the sentiment on.

Pros
Estimated time of completion for this is 15 minutes, which would put the requester's estimated hourly around $9/hr, which is above federal US minimum wage. It's pretty hard to take a full 15 minutes on this, though.Cons
Asked me my kid's age at the end with no way to say "I don't have a kid" and there was also no apparent screener, though I did make a comment at the end stating as such when asked for feedback, so YOLO.AggieV Careful Reader

Misrepresented in the description and took longer than the 4 minutes they claimed. It had a really long screener and quite a bit of info to read and digest. It wasn't worth doing. Yale is one of the wealthiest schools in the world with a huge research budget. I wish they distributed it more fairly among research participants.
